Where it came from
- Repo:
mlx-community/Qwen3-8B-bf16, revision85dd0f16bfe491befbc9cf0b4e966664236e5050(the survivingrefs/mainunder.cache/huggingface/hub/models--mlx-community--Qwen3-8B-bf16/; the directory carries no blobs). Squish's own instructions name this exact repo. - Date: the HF cache directory was created 2026-08-11 19:06 BST = 18:06Z, eleven minutes before the Q4_K_M download finished. Local copy
models/Qwen3-8B-bf16/, ~15 GB per the lab note. Command, exact bytes and sha256 not on record. - Why: the Squish converter reads only safetensors; the Aug 11 note rejected a bigger model because that "would need ~70GB safetensors". It was the source for the INT3/INT8 conversions and was linked as the config/tokenizer sibling (
ln -sfn models/Qwen3-8B-bf16 models/Qwen3-8B-int8-bf16).
How it was served
| label | dates (UTC) | binary and version | ctx / -np / KV / -fa / --jinja / --reasoning-format | harness profile | why this label exists |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| none — never served or benched | n/a | n/a | n/a | n/a | held as a conversion source (a lab note: "the source for any MLX conversion or future fine-tuning") |
Decisions
- Kept as the Squish source and, per the lab note, "worth keeping even though it is not served". That did not happen: on 2026-09-10 08:28Z
models/Qwen3-8B-bf16was MISSING and the 2026-09-07 17:34Z listing of every directory over 0.5 GB does not show it.
What went wrong
- Undated deletion. Between 2026-08-12 (note written) and 2026-09-07 17:34Z (last full listing) the directory vanished. The 2026-08-26 disk review lists only the dozen biggest directories and does not settle it. No transcript contains an
rmof it, no RESTORE script covers it. Whoever deleted it is not on record (it may have been Alan, or an earlier session not on record). - The lab note's advice and the actual disk state disagreed for at least 24 days.
- Standing checks: not applicable (never run).
What happened to it
Downloaded 2026-08-11 18:06Z -> Squish INT3/INT8 conversions -> gone by 2026-09-07 -> no RESTORE entry -> re-downloadable from mlx-community/Qwen3-8B-bf16 (revision above, if still hosted).
